NAIT
NAIT is coming and the mandatory national animal identification and tracing (NAIT) scheme is set to commence for cattle on 1 July 2012 and deer on 1 March 2013.
Go-live will be dependent upon legislation being passed through Parliament. We’re here to help you successfully get through the transition period and meet your obligations with as little disruption as possible
Important NAIT Information:
-
To make life easier all calves, except bobby calves going direct to slaughter, born from now onwards you should start using NAIT approved RFID tags as the primary tag for off-farm animal movements, other than to slaughter
-
When NAIT is mandatory all cattle will need to be tagged with a NAIT-approved RFID ear tag before the animal’s first off-farm movement or within 180 days of birth, whichever comes first
-
Capital stock not moving off the farm are initially exempt. You’ll have three years to get these animals NAIT compliant
- NAIT-approved RFID tags are available from Elders in high performance HDX and lower cost FDX frequencies
Avoid the cost of retagging by making sure you have NAIT-approved RFID tags for marking this season’s calves.
We can supply your NAIT-approved tags and provide you with advice to manage the transition.
